A new online portal allows Monroe County residents to report dangerous roads and intersections

ROCHESTER, NY – Monroe County just launched a new online portal where residents can report the exact location of what they believe is the most dangerous intersection or stretch of road.

In the past decade, 15 people walking were hit by cars on North Clinton Avenue near Upper Falls in five blocks north. 10 were hit while cycling.

That’s what the Reconnect Rochester Crash Map shows. Zooming out, we see that an average of 47 people die on streets and roads every year in Monroe County. More than 5,000 people are injured.

On the new website, residents can indicate where they think changes are needed, whether it’s adding a crosswalk, a sidewalk or slowing down traffic. The portal launched with County Executive Adam Bello and the county’s new Traffic Safety Commission.

“You know our neighborhoods better than anyone, right? People who live in the province’s neighborhoods know their neighborhood best. You know the areas where speeding is a problem. You know where crosswalks are lacking and where intersections just feel unsafe,” Bello said.

At the press conference the death of A 6 year old boy, RJ Grantham, was emphasized. His death led to a traffic change

Residents can now complete the traffic portal via this link. Every three months the Road Safety Committee will review submissions and accident reports to determine where changes are needed.
