Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Country Oak Loop in Fergus Falls on August 2 for a 28-year-old man who was unresponsive, not breathing, pale and cold.

According to court documents, a deputy found the man lying on his stomach on the floor, with his upper chest and face “planted in the front of the couch.” Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police found various drug paraphernalia in the man’s living room, as well as a bag containing a white powder. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office ultimately determined the cause of death to be mixed drug toxicity, including methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Investigators searched the victim’s cell phone and found messages between him and Kaitlyn Jo Carroll.

According to court records, there was a discussion about a completed sale of 3 points (or 0.3 grams) of fentanyl for $60 by the Carroll to the victim hours before he was found dead.

Investigators also discovered Facebook posts from the day the victim was found dead, in which Carroll told someone, “F**k don’t know what I’m gonna do man.”

“I’m really scared of this.”

‘What if they ask about things? Like po po.”

“I’m so fucking scared, dude. IDK what to do.

The investigation concluded that the white powder in the bag tested positive for fentanyl. According to court documents, tests concluded that Carroll’s DNA was also found on the bag.

Carroll’s bail has been set at $150,000. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 20.
