Horse killed and four injured in M65 crash at Hapton

Police were called to Junction 9 of the M65 in the early hours

A horse has been killed and four people injured in a crash on the M65.

Police were called at around 02:34 GMT to a report of two horses being loose on a carriageway at Junction 9 near Hapton.

One of the horses was hit by two vehicles, followed by a second collision involving three vehicles.

Four people suffered minor injuries and the second horse was safely removed from the carriageway, Lancashire Police said.

The eastbound carriageway was closed between junction 8 and junction 10, but has now reopened.
