The candidates for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District are making the final push ahead of the election

CLACKAMAS COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) – With Election Day just around the corner, Republican incumbent Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Democratic challenger Janelle Bynum made a last-ditch effort to sway voters on Saturday.

Chavez-DeRemer joined local carpenters union members in Oregon City who campaigned for her campaign.

While speaking to the union, Chavez-DeRemer focused on economic growth and union support.

“We’re creating jobs, we’re protecting prevailing wages, and we’re making sure we build right here in Oregon,” Chavez-DeRemer said. “What we don’t want is for people to pack up and leave this state.”

Meanwhile, Bynum hosted her own recruitment event with Oregon Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici.

Speaking to volunteers, Bynum emphasized the high stakes of the race.

“This election is about something very, very important,” Bynum said. “It’s about our lives, it’s about us having choice, it’s about us taking control of what we want our communities to look like.”

Bynum has represented a politically mixed district in the state Legislature for years and is hopeful about her chances in a closely contested race.

“This is my fifth election,” Bynum said. “I have always represented a purple district, and our focus remains on increasing turnout and connecting with voters on the issues.”
