Residents near the scene of an alleged murder last night say they are shocked by what happened on their normally quiet Auckland street.

Police were called to a property on Brandon Road in Glen Eden shortly after 11pm on Sunday evening to find a woman who had been stabbed multiple times.

She was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is charged with murder.

Neighbors describe Brandon Rd as a quiet, family-friendly area.

At a site next to the police cordon, resident Fia told RNZ he was sad to hear what had happened.

“It’s a quiet street, and unfortunately this happened… our neighbor, it’s a little scary.”

Fia said he didn’t know his neighbors.

“We don’t talk, but their children always play with our children.”

Further afield, Jeremy Armstrong said the area was mostly safe.

“It’s normally a pretty quiet area, it’s very shocking.”

The arrested man was due to appear in the Waitākere District Court on Monday and police were not looking for anyone else.
