Two people died and one seriously injured in a head-on crash Saturday in Montgomery County

CHERRYVALE, Kan. (WIBW) – Two people were killed and one person was seriously injured in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon in Montgomery County in southeastern Kansas, officials said.

The crash was reported Saturday at 3:57 p.m. on highway US-169, about a mile south of Cherryvale.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro traveling southbound on US-169 went left of center and collided head-on with a northbound 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe.

The driver of a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup attempted to perform an evasive maneuver by braking and swerved into the southbound lanes. When the Chevrolet and Hyundai separated, the Chevrolet turned back into the southbound lane. The front of the Dodge pickup then struck the driver’s side of the Camaro.

The driver of the Camaro, Joseph P. Savage, 45, of Coffeyville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Savage, who was alone in the car, was wearing his seat belt.

The driver of the Hyundai, Connor A. Barba, 18, of Normal, Oklahoma, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Barba was wearing his seat belt.

A passenger in the Hyundai, Megan C. Barnett, 41, of Normal, Oklahoma, was transported to Coffeyville Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The patrol said Barnett was wearing her seat belt.

The driver of the Doge pickup, Theodore J. Osman, 53 feet, of Nowata, Oklahoma, was reported uninjured. The patrol said Osman was wearing his seat belt.
