Raleigh County Public Library offers events for National Children’s Book Week

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WNVS) — The Raleigh County Public Library kicked off National Children’s Book Week early, but they still have several events planned for kids to enjoy.

The library kicked off its events on Saturday, May 4 with three events: a May 4 Star Wars event, a Mother’s Day event, and a Free Comic Book Day event.

Amy Stover, director of the Raleigh County Public Library, said she tries to celebrate children’s books all year long. Stover said attendance at the events has been good.

“Well, throughout the week we stick to our regular story times. For ages two and under, it’s Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. For the older kids, we have our discovery team at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, and we have our story time for two through six on Wednesdays at 10:30 or 1 p.m.,” Stover said . “And there’s a Slime Time Flower Power reading series on Saturday at noon.”

Stover said attendance at the events has been good. She hopes more children will also participate in the other scheduled events.

There was a Lego creation competition on Monday 6 May, where children were encouraged to come and create something from their favorite books using Legos.

National Children’s Book Week runs from May 6 to 11.
