  • Prominent combat company MTK Global announced Wednesday that it is ceasing operations.

  • This statement comes just over a week after Daniel Kinahan was sanctioned by the US government.

  • Boxing figure and alleged crime boss, Kinahan co-founded MTK in 2014 under the name MGM.

Boxing management company MTK Global said in a statement sent to Insider on Wednesday that it had ceased operations.

“As a company, we have faced unprecedented levels of scrutiny and unfair criticism since the U.S. government sanctioned Daniel Joseph Kinahan,” the statement said.

“It is common knowledge that Mr. Kinahan’s involvement in MTK ceased in 2017, and despite repeated assurances in this regard, unfounded allegations regarding his continued association with us and our fighters persist.

“Since major promoters informed us that they would be severing all ties with MTK and no longer working with our fighters, we have made the difficult decision to cease operations at the end of this month.”

The announcement came just over a week after boxing advisor and alleged crime boss Kinahan was sanctioned by the US government.

Later, in a remote press conference attended by Insider, the United States issued a $5 million financial reward for information that could lead to financial disruption, arrest or death. conviction of Kinahan, who is the reputed figurehead of the Kinahan organized crime group. According to a high court in Ireland, the group specializes in drug trafficking, firearms and mock execution murders, as Insider previously reported.

Kinahan has been close to many athletes associated with MTK, including world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

Kinahan co-founded MTK as MGM alongside Matthew Macklin in 2014.

MTK Global CEO Sandra Vaughan said in 2020 that Kinahan was advising fighters who signed management deals with MTK, according to RTE.

She later said that Kinahan “had nothing to do with MTK.”
