The BBC Homes Under The Hammer apartment that shocked Tommy Walsh transformed by his brothers

Homes Under The Hammer fans have witnessed a massive overhaul of their home, a property whose original guide price of £195,000 has soared to £1 million. The show’s host, Tommy Walsh, visited the premises before the auction, when it was in a much worse state than it is today.

It had been empty for two years and was not only a mess, but had many underlying problems. Inspecting the kitchen, Tommy said its size was the only positive factor.

“I know this apartment has been empty for two years, but look at this stove. It’s in shocking condition. I think it’s probably the worst, dirtiest stove I’ve ever seen.”

He said everything had to be taken down to the bare masonry. And he pointed out that there were only 78 years left on the lease.

Despite the daunting challenge of the restoration, that didn’t deter two developer brothers, who purchased the property for more than double its introductory price. They invested an estimated cost of between £150,000 and £200,000 to rejuvenate the land, reports the Express.

With the average cost of flats near the London flat hovering around £1 million, after renovation the property could potentially fetch up to £900,000. The rent was set at an approximate yield of £3,000 per month.

The apartment, boasting a prime location just half a mile from Pimlico tube station and a mile from the River Thames, was unrecognizable when the team returned. The brother owners had opened up the kitchen and living room by knocking out the walls and replaced the once garish, old-fashioned and dirty yellow kitchen with sleek black marble.

They also refreshed the bathroom with black marble accents and extended the lease to 999 years. Future buyers will be hard-pressed not to be impressed by the makeover.

The original valuer even tipped the property £1 million and the potential rental income rose to £4,000 a month. Despite their incredible efforts, viewers on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, said it was a lot of money for a one-bedroom apartment.

One user, @PippyG82, shared: “This £1 million London apartment is one of the cheesiest renovations I’ve ever seen! Vile! #HomesUnderTheHammer.”

Another account holder, @demelcy, said: “Well money can’t buy taste #homesunderthehammer.” They added: “£4,000 per person for this ‘luxury’ bed! #homesunderthehammer. »

@EmsyLamb commented on the decor: “You wouldn’t dare criticize this hideous decor, would you?! #homesunderthehammer.”

Meanwhile, @MrRockingGooner doubted the valuation, asking: “£1m for a 1-bedroom apartment? #homesunderthehammer #huth. »
