Chael Sonnen was asked to replace Jorge Masvidal for Jorge Masvidal. Nate Diaz boxing fight on July 6: “I accept”

Chael Sonnen has been offered the role of backup for Jorge Masvidal’s upcoming boxing fight with Nate Diaz.

The long-awaited rematch between “Gamebred” and “Stockton Samurai” was originally scheduled to take place on June 1 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. However, that plan recently changed and their track was given a new date and location.

The fight will now emanate from the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday, July 6. Boxing Scene was the first to report the news.

The date change also comes with another interesting rumor suggesting that former three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen has been offered the role of backup for the fight.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, “The American Gangster” confirmed that there was some truth to the news, but with one major caveat.

“I don’t like that word (backup),” Sonnen said. “They used a different job because there was no scenario where I would fight with Nate and they knew that. So it was a different word, but meaning if Nate can’t do it, will you face Masvidal? And I said absolutely. You know what pissed me off about that? Firstly, I never got the credit for it, and secondly, Masvidal said he would give me a contract and pay me the biggest purse and not throw his right hand (in the fight). It was a stupid thing to say.

“Paying me for my biggest bag before asking for it, I don’t respect you as a businessman. I never respected him anyway, but he didn’t know that. And then not to throw his right hand like he was Mr. Right Hand, but I agreed. Please write in the contract that you will pay me a large sum of money and that you will not hit me with your right hand. Does he think I would refuse this? And after? There is no weigh-in? Where does his stupidity stop? And whatever the answer… Whatever he continues to say, I accept.

It’s no secret there’s no love lost between Chael Sonnen and Jorge Masvidal. “Gamebred” has made threats of physical violence against the mean street man of West Linn, Oregon on more than one occasion – his problem being Sonnen’s history of TRT and PED use throughout his MMA career.

“I would fight Masvidal right now,” Sonnen added. “He can use his right hand. He can kick me in the balls. He can do whatever he wants. I will be full of energy and I will beat Jorge Masvidal at any time, but I will not accept the Nate fight and that is exactly what I told these jabronis.
