4-year-old boy accidentally hangs himself in dressing room

While spending time with his grandmother, 4-year-old Ryu Pena accidentally hanged himself in a store locker room.

The couple was inside Again Thrift and More in Mankato, Minnesota, when tragedy struck.

Police said Ryu walked away from his grandmother, who was still shopping, and entered an empty locker room.

According to CNN, he closed the door, climbed onto a bench and hung the hoodie he was wearing on a hook.

“We believe he got stuck on a coat rack in the locker room and couldn’t get free,” Commander Jeremy Clifton of Mankato Public Safety told WCCO.

Ryu’s feet couldn’t reach the ground, so he stood there long enough to be suffocated while his grandmother frantically searched for him.

The boy’s mother, Denise Gonzalez, said he lost his life simply while playing.

“That’s the only way I can describe it. He was playing because he’s very curious, adventurous, and it all happened so fast,” she told WCCO.

“It was a real pain in the ass.”

His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses.
