With five of seven multi-event participants in scoring position after the first day, the Central College track and field team’s journey to the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Championships began Thursday.

In the women’s heptathlon, Olivia Bohlen leads the field and is four hundred points ahead of the closest competitor. She had the best time in the 100-meter hurdles (15.01 seconds), shot put (34 feet, 11 inches) and 200-meter sprint (26.55 seconds). Karsyn Lamm is in sixth place after four events with 2,076 points, posting the third-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles (17.02 seconds). Sage Austin was the best high jumper in the field, with a score of 4-11.5, but he sits in 11th place with 1,770 points.

On the men’s side, Central has four of the top eight in the decathlon. Gavin Smith is second and just 10 points behind the leader with 3,474 points. Gage Huyser is third with 3,445 points and Kale Hobart is fourth with 3,276 points. Competing in his first decathlon of the season, Jaxon Thompson ranks 10th with 2,894 points. Smith had top marks in the long jump (22-5.25) and shot put (40-6), while Huyser was second in the 100 meters (11.34 seconds).

The second day of the decathlon and heptathlon begins today at 1 p.m.
