ICC should consider new petition on Armenian genocide – Luis Moreno Ocampo – Public Radio of Armenia

International Criminal Court should file new request for Armenian genocide, ICC says said First Attorney General Luis Moreno Ocampo in an article published by POLICY.

Last month, the California-based Center for Truth and Justice (CFTJ) petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC), of which I was the first chief prosecutor, to investigate Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for genocide against Armenians in Armenia. the ICC should take this into account.

“It is a bitter reality that more than a century after the first widely recognized genocide of the modern era, in which more than a million Armenians were massacred by the Ottomans, Armenians are once again the victims genocide,” says Mr. Ocampo.

“Indeed, shortly after the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Azerbaijan to show his support. And Western political leaders also appear to support Aliyev – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen even called Azerbaijan a “crucial partner,” he adds.

“All of this reminds us how little we have learned from history and how vulnerable we still are to evil. In 1932, Albert Einstein wrote to Sigmund Freud, arguing that extreme nationalism could lead to large-scale violence. It is time for the world to understand this too and create new strategies to end all genocide,” Ocampo continues.
