Who is Kiki Rice? Meet the UCLA star featured in ESPN’s ‘Full Court Press’ documentary with Caitlin Clark, more

Women’s college basketball just completed one of its most exciting seasons in history thanks to a wealth of star talent, breaking television viewership records in the process.

Between Caitlin Clark, Kamilla Cardoso, Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese, JuJu Watkins, and Kiki Rice, star power is at an all-time high and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down anytime soon.

This rise in popularity has been well documented over the past few years and will be explored further in a new documentary on ESPN.

What is the ESPN “Full Court Press” documentary?

Clark, Cardoso and Rice will star on ESPN’s “Full Court Press” show which provides insight into women’s college basketball through the perspectives of these three players. The documentary followed Clark’s Iowa, Cardoso’s South Carolina and Rice’s UCLA teams during the 2023-24 season.

Clark and Cardoso are nationally known players. They faced each other in the 2024 National Championship before going No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Rice, on the other hand, may have gone unnoticed given the immense amount of talent in women’s college basketball. Nonetheless, she took a big step forward in her sophomore campaign, helping UCLA earn the No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Who is Kiki Rice?

Rice is a member of the UCLA women’s varsity basketball team and is entering her junior season.

The 5-11 goaltender has started 70 of the 71 games she has played since joining the Bruins program for the 2022-23 season. She reached the NCAA Tournament both seasons – No. 4 seed in 2023 and No. 2 seed in 2024 – but lost in the Sweet 16 each time.

Rice was the No. 2 prospect in her high school class, ranking only behind center Lauren Betts. Betts transferred to UCLA for her sophomore season after one season at Stanford, so the Bruins have the two best players in the 2022 high school class.

Rice will turn 21 in January, so she won’t be eligible to enter the WNBA draft until 2026.

Rice has famous family ties. She is the cousin of former NBA player and current Knicks executive Allan Houston. She is also the niece of Susan Rice, who officially served on the presidential teams of Barack Obama and Joe Biden as national security advisor and domestic policy advisor, respectively.
