Anyone who says golf is easy is lying or selling you something. This goes doubly for those who have been kept out of the game due to perceived bias, costly entry points, or a lack of trust. Women Golfers Give Back’s Golf Get Ready event, however, ensures that Delaware Valley businesswomen are prepared for the next time they need to meet a client on the green.

Golf is one of the top networking activities when it comes to customer outreach. Few businesses have the power that golf offers to expand their networks and improve business relationships. When the nonprofit Women Golfers Give Back noticed how many women lacked the skills to play the game, it launched the Golf Get Ready Clinic.

Ellie Good, Women Golfers Give Back Events Committee Member and Chair of Golf Give Back Events, said: “Golf has given me so many opportunities, with people I have met, business connections and travel. This has been a wonderful opportunity for me and has opened so many doors for me. I’m happy to support this program and get other girls involved in the game, and now women who haven’t had the junior golf experience that I’ve had.

Good has played golf all his life. It’s an integral part of his success, and now his work with the nonprofit. She understands how intimidating it can be to get started for many people and recognizes that some have probably never set foot on a golf course before.

“Of course, it’s a very male-dominated sport, as many are. But I hope this program can relieve some of that intimidation. We have three different stations: putting, chipping and then also etiquette and FAQ,” shares Good.

The goal of the program is not to create golf pros overnight – even though all instructors in the program are professionals – but to ensure that female participants can say “yes” to a corporate outing or on a business trip.

Even if program participants don’t leave with expert skills, they should feel comfortable enough to step on the green with their male counterparts, many of whom are likely not professional-level players either. Overall, Good hopes the next event will remove that initial barrier and allow women to be part of the conversation beyond golf.

Women Golfers Give Back again expects 50 to 60 women at this year’s event, which will take place May 16 at Gulph Mills Golf Club in King of Prussia. Some will be more experienced than others, while many may never have chosen a club in their life. Without a doubt, all will leave the event with more connections than when they arrived, as well as with more assurance in their abilities and confidence in their play.
