Mail carrier robbed in Palo Alto, 0,000 reward offered

(KRON) — Two suspects remain at large after robbing a mail carrier in Palo Alto on Thursday, Palo Alto police said. The theft comes days after two other suspects were arrested for stealing from postal carriers on the peninsula.

Thursday’s robbery happened around 11:45 a.m. at the Southwood Apartments located at 2850 Middlefield Road.

According to the PAPD, the victim, a man in his sixties, was approached by two men who demanded his postal keys. The victim handed over his keys, but the suspects then asked him to hand over his phone and wallet. The victim refused and a fight ensued.

The suspects knocked the victim to the ground then ran back toward the parking lot, police said. Shortly after, a black car was seen speeding out of the garage before heading south on Middlefield Road. The car was described as an older model Nissan Altima four-door sedan.

The suspects both had their hands in their waistbands when they approached the victim, but the victim said he did not see any weapons. The victim was slightly injured but refused medical treatment.

The suspects were described by the victim as Hispanic men in their 20s, both approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, of medium build and with no facial hair. They wore black sweatshirts with pulled-up hoods.

PAPD is investigating to determine if the suspects are the same men who committed a similar robbery in Palo Alto in December. It is not known whether this case is linked to the postal thefts that occurred on Saturday.

The United States Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of someone who stole a postal carrier.

Anyone with information about this theft is asked to call PAPD at (650) 329-2413 or USPS at (877) 876-2455.
