FilmSharks Buys Sebastian Schindel’s Thriller ‘A Silent Death’ and Sells It to Disney’s Star Distribution (EXCLUSIVE)

Buenos Aires-based production, sales and distribution company FilmSharks has acquired all worldwide rights to Argentinian Sebastian Schindel’s new crime thriller, “A Silent Death” (Una muerte silenciosa), to which it has sold Latin American film rights to Disney. Star Distribution, scheduled for release later this year.

Guido Rud, CEO of FilmSharks, said: “This will likely become one of the biggest Latin American films of the year. Sebastian Schindel earned his stripes as a crime master after the enormous international success of his films “The Boss”, “Anatomy of a Crime”, “Crimes that Bind” and “The Wrath of God”.

“There is a huge appetite for crime films across all platforms,” noted Rud, who also owns the film’s remake rights.

Starring Joaquín Furriel (“The Boss: Anatomy of a Crime,” Netflix’s “Rest in Peace”), Soledad Villamil (“The Secret in Their Eyes”), Alejandro Awada (“Nine Queens”) and Maria Marull (“Tales wild”). , the psychological thriller is set in the rugged landscapes of 1980s Patagonia, where a seasoned hunting guide makes a surprising discovery involving his niece, forcing her to investigate and uncover the dark secrets of that era to seek justice.

Furriel has won numerous awards for his past work, including the Platino Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the series “The Kingdom” (“El Reino”) and the Malaga Film Festival’s Best Actor Award, Silver Biznaga , for his performance in “Rest”. in peace”, as well as several awards in Argentina and in important film festivals.

He starred in what is considered one of the best series in Latin America, “The Bronze Garden”. He is currently the face of fashion brand Moncler for its Spring/Summer 2024 campaign.

The film was produced by Esteban and Hori Mentasti (“The Wrath of God”) of Buffalo Film, Nicolas Veinberg (“Elsa and Fred”) and Cabe Bossi, Pol Bossi and Pablo Bossi (“Nine Queens”) of Pampa Films.

“Making a film of this quality in Argentina was a huge adventure,” said Hori Mentasti.

“We believe that a world-class film like ‘A Silent Death’ is in the best hands with The Walt Disney Company and FilmSharks,” added Esteban Mentasti.

FilmSharks is showing the film to buyers at Cannes and has scheduled its premiere at the Marché du Film on May 18, followed by a second screening the following day.

Other upcoming releases on FilmSharks’ slate include romantic thriller “55,” an American-Indian co-production described as “Slumdog Millionaire” meets “City of God”; the Stop Motion animated feature “Dahlia and the Red Book,” distributed by Disney’s Star in Latin America; “Electrophilia” from Cannes award-winning director Lucia Puenzo and the sci-fi horror drama “Pacific” with Colombian Manolo Cardona (“Narcos”).
