Get ready for a summer of reading, activities and fun at the Camp Verde Community Library

News from Vallée Verte – The theme of the 2024 Summer Reading Program (SRP) is Adventure Begins in Your Library. The Children’s Library and Teen Library hosted 6 weeks of activities designed to encourage summer reading and help children continue learning through hands-on, informal STEM activities that promote creativity, problem solving and discovery.

The children’s librarian, Mrs. Letty, has ordered many new books in preparation for summer reading. Children can check out children’s library books and will never be charged late fees for late returns. Books and other library materials can be dropped off at the drive-thru book return at any time of the day or night.

The season will begin Saturday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the Terra Cotta Room of the Camp Verde Community Library with information booths and activities from local organizations. Organizations in attendance will be Out of Africa Wildlife Park, Red Rock State Park, Rockin’ River Ranch State Park, Fort Verde State Park and Horses with Heart. This will be an opportunity to show that “adventure Begin in your library” but continues right here in the Verde Valley! Sign up for summer reading and join us for grilled hot dogs and snacks.

Children aged 0 to 11 are invited to participate in weekly activities adapted to their age starting June 4.

  • 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. ZUMBA Kids, 4-7 years old.
  • 11:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. ZUMBA Kids, 8-11 years old.
  • 5:45-6:45 p.m. Outdoor time with Ms. Letty at Rezzonico Park.
  • 11:00 a.m. Thursday Story time with Mrs. Letty and her friends.
  • 11:30 a.m. Family yoga.
  • 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. “Window art”.
  • 1:00 p.m. Summer film on Saturdays.

Special programs include a foam party at Community Field on June 27.tha desert safety presentation by Sonoran Reptiles on June 29th at the Camp Verde Community Library and outdoor film premiere, in partnership with the Mary D. Fisher Theater, July 13th in the community field.

Camp Verde Community Library Teen Librarian Zack Garcia announces a new lineup of summer initiatives targeting teens, ages 11-17, to encourage lively social engagement and educational activities. In addition to the weekly Game Nite, Zack has implemented the following summer programs, in keeping with the 2024 Summer Reading Program (SRP) theme, The Adventure Begins in Your Library:

Minecraft Book Club – Starts Friday May 17th @1:00 p.m.: This program is specifically aimed at preteens ages 9 to 12. Tweens will have the chance to bring a story world to life, from the pages of a book to the environment of Minecraft! For this program, participants will read Percy Jackson and the Olympians #1: The Lightning Thief. Join Percy as he and his friends travel from Camp Half-Blood to the gates of Hell (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and back, as they attempt to clear Percy’s name and find out who stole Zeus’ Master Bolt. Crafts for Teens – Starts Monday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m.: Teens are invited to team up with Zack and the Verde Youth Action Alliance (VYAA) for an afternoon of art. Dive into creativity this summer with a variety of crafts including tie-dye, watercolor, crochet, beading and more! Join us in the Teen Library for these engaging sessions running until July 8.

Disc Golf Basics – Starts Tuesday, June 4 at 8:00 a.m. Teenagers learn the basics of the game of disc golf. Join Zack at Rezzonico Family Park to learn the basics of the game. Each week we’ll add a new skill, including putting, driving, stance, holds, and more by playing mini-games. Then, in the sixth week, we will play a 9-hole round on the new Camp Verde disc golf course! Register for the library events calendar at https://yavapai.events/event/disc-golf-basics-5

Books & Lemonade – Starts Saturday, June 8 at 1:00 p.m.: Escape the scorching temperatures with Zack and the VYAA team as they dive into the latest reads and all-time favorites. Have you ever wondered if your favorite movie or TV series came from a book? Discover hidden literary gems while enjoying a cool, refreshing drink at the library. This group will meet at the teen library until July 13.th.

The Camp Verde Community Library is located just off Montezuma Castle Highway at 130 N Black Bridge Road in Camp Verde.
