Nassau County calls for moments of silence on Memorial Day

County Executive Blakeman wants residents to stop what they’re doing for 50 seconds at noon and 6 p.m. Monday.

MINEOLA, NY — Amid family gatherings and barbecues, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman wants residents to reflect on what Memorial Day means by observing a moment of silence.

He’s calling for a 50-second countywide break Monday at noon and 6 p.m. If they can do so safely, people should take their vehicles off the road and honor America’s fallen heroes, Blakeman said.
