SC confirms cancellation of admission of 169 Viqarunnisa students

The Appellate Division Bench has upheld a High Court verdict quashing the admission of 169 first class students of Dhaka’s Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC).

A chamber bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice M. Enayetur Rahim, on Sunday issued a “no order” order on the case, BSS reports.

The petitioners’ lawyer, Deputy Public Prosecutor Kazi Moinul Hasan told BSS that “two petitions have been filed in the chamber court by some parents of the students to stay the High Court verdict. After hearing both parties, the court issued a “non-order”. As a result, the High Court verdict was upheld. The aggrieved party can file a civil petition after receiving the order from the High Court in written form.

On May 21, the High Court ordered an investigation into allegations of corruption and irregularities in the admission of 169 VNSC students.

The High Court also constituted an inquiry committee under the additional secretary of the education ministry.

The High Court also ordered cancellation of admissions and admitted students from the waiting list for vacant seats.

On March 20, the Appellate Division ordered the authorities concerned to close the case within two months.

Earlier on January 14 this year, the mothers of two students filed a petition seeking a fair admission process at the school, alleging that age norms were not being met for admission to the first class.
