Labor’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised the possibility of a merger between the LP and the People’s Democratic Party.

In an interview on NoireTV-GlobalBlackTV posted on YouTube on Saturday, Obi also reacted to the prospect of being endorsed as the South East candidate in the 2027 presidential election by Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 flagbearer.

Responding to the interviewer’s question, Obi expressed gratitude for Abubakar’s statement that he could potentially support him through the South East candidate. “I commend him and I am grateful for his statements, especially when he said he would support me if the presidential ticket went to the South East,” Obi said.

However, Obi stressed that his main concern was not personal ambition or political maneuvering, but rather the well-being of Nigeria and its people. “I do not despair of being president, I despair of seeing Nigeria work, especially for the poor, because we have a lot of potential,” he said.

On a possible merger between the PDP and LP, Obi was open to the idea, provided the aim was to better govern Nigeria and unlock its vast potential. “If the merger is going to make it possible to govern Nigeria properly and unlock all these things that will make Nigeria a better place, I am for it,” he said.

Obi made it clear that he has no interest in mergers or alliances just to secure power or win elections.

“If it is simply a merger for electoral purposes or state capture, I am neither for nor in part, I do not want to participate in something like that,” he said. affirmed.

The former Anambra State governor stressed the importance of unity and cooperation among individuals and parties, but only if the aim is to build a better Nigeria.

He said: “It can be at the party level, it can be at the individual level, it can be at any level, but we must come together so that we can build a better Nigeria. »
