CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — The Cedar Rapids City Council is meeting Monday evening to consider changing the pricing structure for automated traffic cameras.

In light of a law signed by Governor Reynolds, the City of Cedar Rapids will need to amend its ordinance. This law, if passed with bipartisan support, creates regulations for traffic cameras that automatically issue tickets.

Throughout Cedar Rapids, there are a total of 15 traffic cameras. Newly signed state law says a speeding ticket can only be issued via an automatic camera if someone is going more than 10 miles over the speed limit.

Under current city code, the city has the ability to issue fines for any speeding violation, even one mile per hour over the limit.
