Liverpool Transfer News Today: Van Dijk contract SHOCK, Koopmeiners OFFER and Slot’s FIRST signing

The countdown to the summer transfer window is well and truly underway and we have all the latest transfer news from Liverpool today (Wednesday May 29).

The Reds are already linked with several targets as they look to revamp their squad following the departure of Jurgen Klopp and the arrival of Arne Slot.

Virgil van Dijk admits NO SAY on new Liverpool contract

The 32-year-old defender sees his term expire in 2025 alongside another high-profile duo of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but negotiations appear to have stalled for the three Liverpool superstars.

Club captain Van Dijk is rumored to be a transfer target for Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Saudi side Al-Qadsiah, with this summer representing the club’s last chance to cash in if they choose to do so.

First Koopmeiners OFFER as midfield race intensifies

Liverpool clearly face significant competition in the race to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, with Italian giants Juventus making a move to get ahead of the battle to sign him.

The Reds have long been linked with the 26-year-old Dutch playmaker, who was instrumental in helping the Bergamo side to Europa League glory this season. That run to the final of course included a quarter-final success against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Juventus, however, are big admirers of the Koopmeiners and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, have already made their opening offer to Atalanta.

According to the respected Italian daily, this may not succeed, as the €40 million plus €5 million in add-ons will fall far short of the €60 million valuation Atalanta has for their talented star man .

La Gazzetta reports that Juventus have a contingency plan, however, which could involve inserting their Dutch-born defender Dean Huijsen into the deal as compensation. Huijsen has just returned to Turin after a loan at Roma and is also of interest to Borussia Dortmund.

Ryan Gravenberch makes HUGE decision on Liverpool future

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch says he is happy at Anfield and wants to stay – despite speculation he could leave this summer.

The 22-year-old Dutchman showed flashes of real promise, starting 26 Premier League games following a big-money move from Bayern Munich last year. But in recent weeks he has been consistently linked with a move to Türkiye this summer.

Gravenberch says, however, that he has no plans to leave Merseyside after just one season, telling Dutch media outlet AD: “I hope to play here at Liverpool for years, it’s a top club.

“I’ve never spoken to Arne Slot but he’s a coach who likes attacking football. That should suit me, you think. We’ll see!”

Liverpool to Bayern for £70m, Porto star Varela

Liverpool and Bayern Munich have both inquired about signing Porto midfielder Alan Varela, according to a new report in Argentina.

Porto finished third in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, meaning there will be no Champions League football for the club next season.

This means interested parties could have the opportunity to snap up some of Porto’s most bankable assets as the club looks to plug a budget deficit.

The Reds face big competition for midfielder Dani Olmo, worth £51million.

Liverpool have been joined by two Premier League rivals since they expressed interest in a £51million playmaker. They now face a time trial.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Liverpool are in the race for Dani Olmo this summer. They are not the first to claim this either.

Sport have suggested the same, as Barcelona now risk losing one of their long-term transfer targets. They have wanted Olmo to return to the club for a long time now.

Bother believes the Reds could be the ones to end their hopes as Olmo nears an exit ahead of next season. He has a release clause in his contract worth around £51million, but it expires on July 15.

This means clubs are against time to secure Olmo at this price. This is why Liverpool suddenly have a lot more competition.

PSG joins the race to sign Luis Diaz this summer

Luis Diaz is a reported target for Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Liverpool winger’s future at Anfield shrouded in uncertainty.

Earlier this year, it was reported that another interested party, Barcelona, had offered between €120 million and €140 million for the Colombian winger.

Under contract until 2027, Diaz would undoubtedly command a high price if Liverpool decided to cash in, but it is unlikely Barca could meet the sums involved.

Arne Slot attacks Feyenoord for Liverpool’s first signing

Arne Slot’s first backroom appointment at Liverpool has been confirmed, with Ruben Peeters joining as lead first-team physical performance coach.

Peeters, 32, leaves Feyenoord to join Anfield, where he worked as performance manager alongside the Reds’ new head coach.

Slot’s move to Liverpool was announced last week after the conclusion of the Premier League season with an €11 million compensation deal agreed between the English club and Feyenoord for the manager and two members of his staff.

Slot, Peeters and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff will form the core of Liverpool’s new coaching setup as the club looks to move beyond the Jurgen Klopp era.

Reds price Sepp van den Berg with future uncertain

Liverpool have set a valuation of £20m for Sepp van den Berg, according to The Athletic’s James Pearce.

However, the Dutch defender’s future will not be settled until new head coach Arne Slot makes his assessment of the team.

It was reported in Germany last week that Van den Berg could move to Mainz for as little as €5m (£4.3m).
