Kyndryl announces three-year agreement to manage Bord Gáis Energy’s entire hyperscaler and private cloud environment

DUBLIN, May 29, 2024– Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world’s largest provider of IT infrastructure services, today announced the renewal of a three-year agreement with Bord Gáis Energy for expanded managed services support for its cloud hybrid. Kyndryl will also work with Bord Gáis Energy to migrate its entire environment to the cloud and SaaS (Storage-as-a-Service), following the co-created project “Kyndryl | Bord Gáis Strategic Energy Technology Roadmap.

Under the new agreement, Kyndryl will manage Bord Gáis Energy’s entire Microsoft Azure and private cloud environment, down to the operating system, as well as providing backup as a service (via Microsoft Azure and on-premises), Storage-as-a-Service and Compute-as-a-Service. The new services will help Bord Gáis Energy reduce its data center space and reduce its CO2 emissions, which aligns with Bord Gáis Energy’s journey towards net zero emissions by 2045, while providing a IT infrastructure environment that will enhance Bord Gáis Energy’s end customer experience.

This new agreement builds on the work that Kyndryl has already undertaken over the past three years with Bord Gáis Energy. The partnership has so far enabled the successful migration of almost half of the company’s workloads to Microsoft Azure without any issues, reducing the overall number of IT incident tickets thanks to Kyndryl Bridge automation , while Kyndryl delivery teams have kept the current systems running without any outages for the previous three years.

One of the solutions that Bord Gáis Energy and Kyndryl have implemented together is the Red Hat® Ansible Automation® platform to gradually automate event and alert management, as well as all security code controls. The Ansible Automation® platform integrates with Bord Gáis Energy’s IT service management tool, and the result has been improved stability across Bord Gáis Energy’s IT estate. In the two years since implementation, the solution has automatically diagnosed 72% of all incidents and automatically resolved 40% using Ansible playbooks. Automated end-to-end resolution closes trouble tickets in seconds.

“We value our relationship with Bord Gáis Energy and I am delighted that we are renewing our partnership for a further three years,” said Chris Davis, Managing Director of Kyndryl Ireland. “We are already exploring new areas of the future in data and AI, we presented our global alliance with Microsoft and our efforts to develop skills and expertise in a key area for the company .
