Popstars goes viral – new fans shocked by brutality of show that launched Kym Marsh and Mylene Klass

Those who watched TV in the early 2000s will certainly remember Popstars, the singing show that launched the careers of Myleene Klass and Kym Marsh.

The documentary-style show saw singers attempt to impress a panel of judges – ‘Nasty’ Nigel Lythgoe, Nicki Chapman and Paul Adam – who would then place them in a new pop group.

The show’s winners, Danny Foster, Myleene Klass, Kym Marsh, Suzanne Shaw and Noel Sullivan, formed the hit band Hear’Say. And the finalists, Michelle Heaton, Tony Lundon, Kevin Simm, Jessica Taylor and Kelli Young, went on to create the chart-topping group Liberty X.

Now, two decades later, a thread about the show’s most brutal moments has gone viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, sparking a new conversation about the show – and introducing it to a certain number of young viewers.
