Reader’s Perspective: Stop idling cars and buses in Duluth – Duluth News Tribune

I have lived on Lake Superior my entire life. I live with my parents (Kate Lawler and Josh Bailly), my little brother and my grandparents (Carol and John Lawler), with our dog and my love of the outdoors, Lake Superior and animals.

I realized something about Duluth: the city is made up of buses and cars. Every time I go to the library, the aquarium or anywhere else, I see vehicles idling. I can feel it, smell it and hear it. When the buses stop, they idle. When the cars stop, we don’t know why, they slow down. It harms our health, damages our vehicles and pollutes our air.

I ask you to stop. Really, it’s not that difficult. Bus drivers, when picking up people from the bus stop, turn off the bus. Drivers, if you stop or are stuck behind a train, turn off your car. If we do this, the impact will be huge and everyone will benefit.

I’m sure if everyone stops and tries it will make a difference. I am in favor of change.
