Obiora Okeke and Phoebe Anderson ready for NCAA championships

EUGENE, Ore. Obiora Okeke And Phoebe Anderson are expected to represent the Columbia track and field team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., this weekend.

Both Lions punched their tickets to the NCAA Finals on Memorial Day weekend at the NCAA Outdoor Eastern Preliminaries in Kentucky. To progress, Okeke managed a ninth place in the discus throw with a mark of 56.80m. Anderson did so in the 5000m semifinals, placing sixth with a time of 15:35.80.

Okeke will compete in the men’s discus final round on Friday at 8:35 p.m. The field is made up of 24 student-athletes divided into two flights. Each student-athlete will receive three throws, with the top nine getting three additional throws and a chance to win the NCAA title.

Anderson will compete in the final round of the women’s 5,000m on Saturday at 7:25 p.m. The field is made up of 24 student-athletes, all competing at the same time.

The top eight finishers in each event will be named an NCAA All-American.
