Ky. State trooper injured in attack during stop and chase

A Kentucky State Police trooper was injured Friday morning when he was attacked while trying to pursue a suspect.

The incident began around 2 a.m. when a police officer attempted to stop a vehicle, starting in Nelson County and ending in Marion County, WLKY-TV reports. Eventually, the driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area.

The police officer followed him but was attacked by the suspect, who fled. He was finally arrested shortly before noon.

The soldier was airlifted to a Louisville hospital after the attack and was treated and released.

The man was charged with strangulation, assault, disarming a peace officer and theft by unlawful taking of a firearm.
