Presented on Blu-ray in the UK from restorations sourced from the finest materials available. Available from August 19, 2024 as part of The Masters of Cinema seriesthe first edition of only 2000 copies will exclusively feature an O-card case.

Alongside Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin as pioneers of film comedy, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are two of the most beloved comedians in film history. After first performing alongside each other in 1921, they officially teamed up later in the decade in a series of short films made for producer Hal Roach – launching a hugely successful partnership that would survive into the sound era and will last another quarter of a year. century.

This collection captures the duo’s first (mis)adventures on screen, chronicling their journey since their first films together – The lucky dog and the aptly titled 45 minutes from Hollywood – until the dawn of their official partnership in thirteen short films produced throughout 1927. Duck soup And Sailors, be careful! has Do detectives think?, Put pants on Philip And The battle of the century (formerly available only in incomplete versions until the missing scenes were rediscovered in 2015), these films show the evolution of two independent comedians to become the most influential and famous comedy duo of all time.
