The Irish MMA superstar, who has not competed in the UFC since breaking his leg at UFC 264 in July 2021, was expected to make his return at UFC 303 later this month – but this is very threatened.

According to MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, the UFC is “burning the midnight oil” trying to find a replacement for the pay-per-view main event.

“The UFC is not intentionally trying to prolong this 303 saga,” he posted on There aren’t many options available at the moment. If there were, they would have already announced everything and moved on.

When asked if McGregor’s fight against Michael Chandler was indeed canceled, Helwani said it was “just a formality at this point.”

“It’s not a 100% reduction, but I would be extremely surprised at this point if he stays and they are actively negotiating with multiple camps to find a replacement,” Helwani posted on suspense but they continue at the moment, as if they need a replacement.

On Wednesday night, McGregor hinted he might be dealing with an Instagram story referencing past injuries.

“I think the more you train with resistance, the less movement there is and the more injury there is. But the less resistance you train with, the more movement there is and the less injury there is,” McGregor said in old clips he posted.

Red flags have already been raised about McGregor and the Chandler fight.

Earlier last month, less than 12 hours before it was scheduled to start, the UFC 303 press conference in Dublin, Ireland, was canceled with no reason for postponement.

With the press conference canceled on such short notice, rumors began to swirl online – especially after McGregor posted videos on social media of himself partying at a club on previous weekend.
