Four Saturday morning events begin the meeting

U.S. Olympic Trials: Four events begin competition Saturday morning (heat sheet)

The U.S. Olympic Trials begin Saturday morning with preliminaries in four events, the women’s 100 butterfly, the women’s 400 freestyle, the men’s 100 breaststroke and the men’s 400 freestyle. The session begins at 11 a.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The women’s 100 butterfly will see Regan Smiththe heavy favorite later in the week in the 200 butterfly and backstroke events, takes to lane four in the first circle seed series, with Gretchen Walsh and teenager from Indiana Alex Shackel to follow her. American record holder Torri Huske is in the final with the swimmer who was a finalist at the last Trials in 2021, Claire Curzan.

Katie Ledecky is the big favorite in the women’s 400m freestyle, and she will be joined in the final heat of the event by Claire Weinstein and finalist of the 2023 World Championships Bella Sims. The previous series includes the multi-medalist of the Worlds Lea Smith and 2021 Olympic finalist Paige Maddenot.

In the men’s 100m breaststroke, Nicholas Fink is the top seed with Jake Foster join him in the final round. Finalist of the 2023 World Cup Josh Matheny and American record holder Michel André highlight the previous series when he was a bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympics Cody Miller joined Noah Nichols and former college star Max McHugh a heat before that. Do not forget Liam Bellthis year’s NCAA champion in the 100-yard breaststroke, in the sixth heat.

Finally, the wide open men’s 400 freestyle sees the 2021 Olympic bronze medalist Kieran Smith in the seventh inning with Rex Maurer, Aaron Shackell And Ross Dant while Jake Magahey, David Johnston, Jake Mitchell And Carson Foster respectively occupy lanes three to six in the final round.
