Shocking moment: Police car rams escaped cow TWICE after animal rampages through streets chasing passers-by – The Sun

The cow is believed to have damaged a car and charged at members of the public.

Officers tried various tactics to capture the cow, but were unsuccessful.

They eventually made the decision to stop the cow using a police car – and are now contacting the IOPC.

Shocking footage shows a police car hitting the cow at high speed – knocking it over onto the road.

The car then drives towards the injured and distressed cow and moves it with its bumper.

A member of the public is heard shouting: “Why are you doing this?

The cow was moved to a nearby farm after suffering a large cut to her leg and is being treated by a veterinarian.

Home Secretary James Cleverly said: “I see no reasonable need for this action.

“I have requested a full and urgent explanation on this matter. This appears to be unnecessarily harsh.”

Wildlife presenter Chris Packham said: “I don’t know where to start with this.

“But surely it’s illegal and should be investigated and prosecuted. What kind of monster pokes a calf? Twice?”

The RSPCA said: “This is a very upsetting and distressing video to watch.

“We will contact the police urgently to understand the circumstances of what happened.”

Chief Inspector Sam Adcock said: “I know this has caused distress and I would like to thank the community for their concern.

“The decision to use the police car was only made after other methods to stop the cow had failed.

“There will be an investigation into the actions that led to this, but our goal at all times is to ensure the safety of the public.

“I know there are videos of this incident circulating that the public may find distressing.

“I would request that these videos be sent directly to us to assist us in our investigation.”
