Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has further explained why he was forced to cancel his June 3 concert at Arenale Romane in Bucharest, Romania because he was suffering from a viral infection.

The show was part of the iconic metal singer’s tour to promote his recently released solo album, “The Mandrake Project.” He took the stage at the Swedish Rock Festival on June 8 and was asked about the cancellation and his reinstatement at the event by Sveriges Radio P4 Live.

He replied: “I had a break of four or five days, so I had to take a course of antibiotics for five days and take some other medicines, relieve some of the swelling in my vocal cords. J I had a virus for about two weeks a few days ago, and it was getting worse.

“The last show I canceled was 17 years ago, so it was rare. Because I almost never cancel shows, it was obvious that it was real. I was singing it, and normally when I sing, you start it was getting better, but it was getting worse.

“So, I said, ‘I have to…’ There’s no space to rest on this tour. There’s a show and there’s been a few days around. I said, ‘I can take a break for five days, go see the doctor, do what he tells me, shut up for five days…’ Just do whatever you do (to recover, I know how to take care of my voice, but when you get sick, it’s something else entirely).

Bruce shared the following statement at the time of the cancellation: ““I pushed my voice through a viral infection over the last few shows. I was hoping that the two days following the concerts in the Netherlands would be enough time for me to rest vocally, but the Budapest concert was a real struggle. The crowd was fantastic, but I have a duty to the rest of the tour and a responsibility to take care of my instrument… it’s the only one I have!

“It is with a very heavy heart that I had to make the decision to cancel tomorrow’s show in Bucharest. This is not the result I was hoping for. I am seeing a throat specialist tomorrow to confirm the wisdom of my decision, but after 40 years of singing, I know when things are not going well and the voice needs to rest temporarily I am gutted for the Bucharest fans, I can only apologize and thank you for. your support and understanding.
