MASSENA — Summer fun for children is on the way, courtesy of the Masséna Recreation Department and the Masséna Police Activities League.

The Recreation Department’s summer recreation program begins June 26 and will continue through Aug. 9 with supervised and hosted programs at Alcoa Field and Nightengale, Madison and Jefferson elementary schools.

“Participants can be dropped off at one of four locations to start the day or can join at any other location if they check in with a playground facilitator,” officials said. hobbies.

Games and activities will be offered every day from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. An arts and crafts instructor will be on hand to provide a variety of arts and crafts projects for children of all ages. Participants will receive a free lunch at the high school, courtesy of the Massena Summer Lunch Program.

“This is planned for any day we don’t have a beach day,” recreation officials said. “On Wednesdays and other days when the school lunch program is not offered, free lunch will be provided to all children participating in the morning program.”

Sponsors of this year’s luncheon include Stewart’s, An Italian Affair, Subway and SeaComm Federal Credit Union. All drinks are provided by Pepsi-Cola.

Children will be bused to Massena Town Beach after lunch, starting at 11:00 a.m. and returning around 3:30 p.m., and children will be back at their play area at 3:45 p.m.

Parents and guardians can register their children in advance by contacting the Massena Recreation Department or registering online at https://www.facebook.com/MassenaRecreationCommision, or on the first day their child participates in the program . Participants must be 5 years old to attend the morning program and take the bus to Massena Town Beach.

“This is a “drop-in” program that allows adults to drop off and pick up their children at any time at the playgrounds and beach. If children become unruly, they will be sent home at any time during the program. We are not a babysitting service. This entire program is a free program,” recreation officials said.

The Masséna Police Activities League also offers a summer program for young people which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, from July 8 to August 16. Registration is open for the program.

Executive Director Zachary J. Monroe said the program is designed “to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and youth in our community.”

“With a busy schedule that includes weekly field trips, our summer program promises an enriching and fun experience for all participants,” he said in a press release. “The program provides a unique blend of recreational activities, educational opportunities and valuable interactions with law enforcement officers and positive adult mentors.”

The cost is $300 per child. Families registering several children can benefit from special rates: $300 for the first child and $150 for each additional registration. Flexible payment options are available.

Monroe said spots are limited, so they encourage parents to register their children as early as possible to guarantee a spot in the program.
