The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra inspired by Armand “Mondo” Duplantis

If you ever doubted it, the Olympic Games are getting closer and closer… And, like so many times in the past, Omega will be the official timekeeper of Paris 2024. But today’s topic, even if it is related to one of the sports that will be represented in the French capital, it is not the Olympic Games. Today, Omega presents a new edition of its classic 41mm Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m, inspired by one of the greatest athletes in the history of pole vaulting, eight-time world record holder and current Olympic champion Armand “ Mondo » Duplantis… And looking at the new color palette, you will easily understand that it comes from Sweden.

Literally an athlete at the peak of his sport, Armand Duplant is the current world and Olympic champion, but on April 20 he broke the world record for the 8th time in his career, setting a new height at 6.24 m . An Omega ambassador since 2020, he has since won several titles at the World and European Championships and won his first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games. It’s time for Omega to pay homage to its already impressive career, with a special edition of the AT 150m that elegantly mixes the colors of the Swedish flag with its nautical attire.

Mondo Duplantis’ watch is based on an Omega classic, the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Co-Axial Master Chronometer 41 mm. A nice blend of casualness and robustness, this watch is presented here in stainless steel with the classic attributes of the collection – twisted “lyre” lugs, polished bezel and conical screw-down crown. Despite its 41 mm in diameter and 13.2 mm in height, it remains relatively compact on the wrist, with just under 48 mm in length.

What makes this Armand Duplantis edition special is the dial. While the blue surface is given a traditional opaline finish with horizontal stripes, unique homages to Mondo include a Seamaster name and quarter hour numerals in yellow, as well as a yellow varnished seconds hand with a jump-inspired shape pole vault, with a Super-LumiNova on top to represent the pole grip. All other dial elements are otherwise classic Aqua Terra.

Inside the case and under the sapphire crystal caseback is Caliber 8900. This Master Chronometer certified automatic movement is known for its double barrel architecture (60 hour power reserve) and convenient time zone function on the hand hours. It is also highly anti-magnetic and precise, with its coaxial escapement.

The final touch comes from the rubber strap, once again inspired by the colors of Sweden. It is made in blue with yellow stitching and closed with a folding clasp. Now available from the brand, the Duplantis-inspired Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 41mm (reference 220.12.41.21.03.009) is priced at 6,900 euros, CHF 5,900 Or $6,300.
