SMPTE will offer a bootcamp on IP networks

WHITE PLAINS, NY—The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) has unveiled a pilot IP networking boot camp consisting of three different courses and a final exam.

Courses will cover the latest advances, updates, and SMPTE ST 2110 standards and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited, the company said.

Two of the three courses are new and the existing course has been updated. Those who complete all three courses and pass the final exam will earn certification in IP networking, with an emphasis on SMPTE ST2110, the release said.

Courses include:

Introduction to IP Networking, which covers the basics needed for a foundation in IP networking.
IP network design, which provides an overview of elements, systems and devices in an all-IP installation environment. The course examines the entire IP media supply chain.
Understanding ST 2110, which explains how ST 2110 can be used to create multimedia production or delivery systems within IP networks.

Each course lasts three weeks and will be taught by live instructors. Study groups and discussion forums will take place throughout the duration of training camp. Practical exams and sample questions will be offered after each lesson. A program is available on request, SMPTE said.

The final week of boot camp includes three interactive sessions with industry experts, who will offer practical insights into solving real-world problems. Participants have one week to take the final exam after the sessions.

The price of the bootcamp is $1,350. A discounted early bird price of $900 is available until June 28. The SMPTE schedule is currently provisional; however, another boot camp course is currently planned to be offered one week in July, August and September. The July start date is currently not available, but it will be after July 4, SMPTE said.
