Message from the Mayor of Flower Mound – June 2024 – Cross Timbers Gazette | South Denton County | Mound of flowers

Hello Flower Mound neighbors! I am very honored to write my very first column as a newly elected mayor. I would like to take this space to introduce myself.

My husband, Jason, and I have been married for 25 years and chose to move to Flower Mound 18 years ago to raise our two amazing children, Avery and Lucas. Avery graduated from Marcus High School and attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh for broadcast journalism. Lucas graduated from Marcus and plans to attend the University of North Texas to study cybersecurity.

I’m originally from Ohio but spent most of my childhood in Oklahoma. I earned a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Oklahoma. As someone who is constantly learning and expanding, I am currently completing my PhD in Science at Texas Tech University. I have been a physical therapist for approximately 30 years and currently work at Select Rehabilitation Hospital in Denton. I have held a variety of leadership roles in addition to patient care, including business operations, consulting, teaching and management. But through it all, I always find myself returning to patient care, because communicating and working with others is my main passion.

Prior to my election, I served as Flower Mound and SMARTGrowth Planning and Zoning Commissioner, and previously served as Vice Chair of the Transportation Commission. I have learned so much about our city and the priorities of our residents by serving on these boards. I enjoy being involved in my community and have already graduated from our Flower Mound Citizen Police Academy and the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. Additionally, I served as President of Chaucer Estates HOA.

So why did I decide to run for mayor? I always wanted to give back to my community by doing service, and the time was right as my children grew up. As an avid cyclist, I have often explored our city through a unique perspective. I saw an increase in traffic and a loss of our precious green space, and I knew I could do more, and the role of mayor suited my personality style. We are fortunate to have incredible recreational infrastructure, beautiful parks, and an extensive trail system, and I want to work to protect and expand these assets. I know growth is coming, especially on the west side of the city, but I want to make sure that growth happens responsibly and in accordance with the wishes of our residents. I will work to honor the intentions of our Master Plan, strengthen our great local businesses, and better communicate with our state legislators to maximize our financial strength in Texas and improve the preservation of our environment.

I am very honored to have the support of our constituents and look forward to meeting those of you with whom I have not yet had the pleasure of interacting. For those of you who did not vote for me, I want you to know that I am here to serve all the residents of Flower Mound. I look forward to getting to know you and hearing what matters most to you and your family.

Before closing, I want to thank Mayor Derek France and Councilor Jim Engel for their service and for being such dedicated ambassadors for our city. I would also like to congratulate Councilor Janvier Werner on her election. I look forward to working with all City Council members to ensure that Flower Mound remains one of the premier destinations to live, work and play.”

I will see you again on these pages in July!
