Crystal Palace eyes Jean-Philippe Mateta turnaround in January after striker’s fortunes rebound

Crystal Palace are reconsidering their decision to potentially allow Jean-Philippe Mateta to leave the club this month.

The striker from his native France is attracting loan interest until the end of the season, but a recent uptick in form could see him remain at Selhurst Park.

Mateta has two goals in his last four games in all competitions and was contacted by manager Patrick Vieira in front of Burnley target Christian Benteke in the 1-1 draw against Brighton, playing a part in the fine goal of Conor Gallagher.

After Friday’s meeting with their rivals, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish met Mateta at the Amex Stadium to congratulate him on his recent performances in a show of club faith.

Mateta is currently on loan at Palace from German club Mainz, with the two clubs in talks over whether the 24-year-old will make a permanent move to south London.
