Google Tensor G5 design is ready, coming with Pixel 10

Google has completed the design of the Tensor G5 SoC, a chip that will power the Pixel 10 next year. This chip is now ready to be sent to the foundry for manufacturing. This one will be manufactured by TSMC.

Google Tensor G5 design is ready, it will be released next year

Information about the finalized design process comes from Taiwan. The Pixel 10 series will be the first to use this processor. Other Pixel products should of course include it later.

This chip will be manufactured using TSMC’s second-generation 3nm node, also known as the N3E. This chip should represent a huge step forward from anything Google has done so far. Google designed it itself, and TSMC’s second-generation 3nm node is the right way to manufacture it.

The Google Tensor G5 is likely the chip that Google hopes to see compete with the best processors on the market. It should be extremely powerful, in addition to being designed specifically for Pixel products.

Pixel users have had to deal with questionable SoCs in the past, Google is looking to change that

Pixel users have had to deal with some really questionable chips in the past. The Exynos 5123 in the Pixel 6 series certainly comes to mind, and it was part of the Tensor chip. The Exynos 5300 was an improvement, but still not the best solution. This one was included in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series smartphones.

What now? The chip is ready to be manufactured, but Google still has to test it after the fact. We’re still a long way from seeing this chip in action, as the Tensor G4 has not yet been launched.

The Tensor G4 will arrive alongside the Pixel 9 series next month. Google has announced that the new Pixel smartphones will go official on August 13. This is a big change for Google, as everyone was expecting the devices to arrive in early October.
