West Ham post message from Edson Alvarez as Man United speculation swirls

West Ham have released a message from Edson Alvarez as speculation swirls over a possible move to Manchester United.

West Ham were rocked this week when reports emerged claiming Edson Alvarez was a target for Man United.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed Manchester United want the 26-year-old West Ham star to replace Casemiro in the long term.

Alvarez quickly established himself as a fan favorite and a fundamental player for West Ham last season after joining from Ajax for around £34 million.

The Man United rumors are bolstered by the fact that Erik ten Hag was Alavarez’s coach at Ajax.

It has been reported by Caught Offside that the Mexican midfielder wants to leave West Ham after the club failed to secure European football.

After Bayern, Hammers star Alvarez joins forces with Man United

Despite only finishing one place above the Hammers, Manchester United did so by winning the FA Cup to clinch a place in the Europa League.

When confronted with rumors he could leave West Ham for Old Trafford at a press conference yesterday, Alvarez was coy and did not play down the speculation.

“I can only tell you that I am focused on what I have to do,” the Hammers star said, as reported by ESPN.

“I know that the Copa America is a very important tournament where the eyes of the world are basically there.

“Later it will be time to see what exists or what does not exist.”

Alvarez lost his place at West Ham under David Moyes at the end of last season and has not posted a farewell message to the outgoing manager despite his activity on social media.

However, he sent a message on his behalf to fans.

West Ham post message from Alvarez as Man United speculation swirls

The Hammers appeared to deliberately release the video after his comments at yesterday’s press conference.

But the latest line could suggest he expects to be back at West Ham next season rather than Man United.

“Hello everyone, Edson Alvarez here,” he said.

“I’m really excited to play the Copa America, we hope for all your support. Thanks a lot and see you soon.

Since the post was published, Alvarez has captained Mexico in their opening match against Michail Antonio’s Jamaica.

But disaster struck when the rumored Manchester United target left in tears with a hamstring injury.

A hamstring injury to a player like Alvarez, who does not need to rely on his long-distance pace in central midfield, would not deter a club from signing a player.

It is therefore wrong to suggest that the injury could work in West Ham’s favour.

However, depending on the degree of the injury, this could prevent Alvarez from taking part in West Ham’s first pre-season under new head coach Julen Lopetegui.

This will almost certainly mean the end of his Copa America.

Last October, Alvarez said he was “always open” to a move after links with Bayern. And he added: “I want to play and show people my best qualities. But in summer, you never know what’s going to happen.

But earlier this month, Hammers News reported that Alvarez appeared to hint he would stay at the London Stadium next season.

Alvarez made 31 Premier League appearances for the Hammers in his first season, including 28 starts.

He averaged 2.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 2.3 clearances and 38.5 passes per game with a success rate of 86.1% (who scored).

But he also struggled to get through 90 minutes of intense English football, visibly tiring in many matches – something Moyes said he had to adapt to.

Alvarez has also picked up 20 yellow cards in 37 appearances for West Ham in all competitions, more than one in two.
