Li also said on Tuesday that he was confident the world’s second-largest economy would achieve its full-year economic growth target of around 5 percent and could be expected to continue posting a steady improvement during the second trimester.

“China’s production of advanced electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and photovoltaic products, etc., first guarantees our domestic demand, but also enriches global supply,” Li said during his opening speech.

The United States and the European Union have both accused China of having overcapacity in green technology and announced measures to protect their respective domestic industries from what they see as unfair competition from the share of Chinese companies seeking to increase their exports in a context of weak domestic demand.

China has rejected accusations that its companies have an overcapacity problem or benefit from unfair subsidies.
