KPRC 2 announces new chief meteorologist ahead of Frank Billingsley’s retirement

HOUSTON – Beloved KPRC 2 Chief Meteorologist Frank Billingsley is retiring after a distinguished career spanning more than four decades. Its last day on the air will be June 28, 2024.

Emmy Award-winning meteorologist Anthony Yanez will succeed Billingsley as chief meteorologist.

Houston viewers first met Yanez in the summer of 2003 during the KPRC 2 team’s coverage of Hurricane Claudette, marking her on-air debut.

With more than 25 years of news broadcasting experience, Yanez found his passion for weather and holds seals of approval from leading weather organizations including the American Mogenic Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). He received the 2020 Best Weather Report award from the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California.

Anthony Yanez will hand morning meteorologist duties to Justin Stapleton.

  • The new range of the KPRC 2 Storm Tracker team will be:

  • Anthony Yanez: television news at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

  • Justin Stapleton: 5 a.m. – 7 a.m. KPRC 2 News Today, 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. KPRC 2+ Now, 10 a.m. KPRC 2 News Today

Billingsley expressed his gratitude to the Houston community for their support throughout his career. He plans to remain active in the community during his retirement.
