‘In My Room’ with Velvet Trip

Velvet Trip celebrated their sublime debut album for their Rolling Stone AU/NZ “In my room” session.

Sydney psychedelic band released HARMONY FLOWERSearlier this year, before taking their debut album on the road to places like Bluesfest.

Zeppelin Hamilton and Clayton Allen worked on HARMONY FLOWERS over the past three years, focusing on their art as the pandemic ripped away normalcy from the world around them.

It was the diverse sounds of Europe that initially inspired Hamilton.

“I’ve been exposed to a wide variety of artists and sounds during my travels,” he says. “I remember seeing artists like Kikagaku Moyo in a London warehouse, Little Simz at Berghain and King Krule’s saxophonist at a house party.

“I learned and wrote a lot during this time. Clay and I eventually ended up in Berlin. This is where we started discussing the album and the sound we wanted to create when we got home.

Even though Hamilton broke his hand shortly after returning to Australia, the duo continued to fight, teaming up with Phan Sjarif (Middle Kids, Birds of Tokyo) to bring their debut album to life.

“This record feels like you’re entering a different state of mind, both musically and personally,” adds Allen. “After coming out of a difficult period in our lives and going through a difficult but cathartic creative process, we feel like we’ve shed a little skin and are moving forward into new territory.”

You can listen HARMONY FLOWERS below, which is pleasantly reminiscent of artists like Khruangbin and Tame Impala with its meandering neo-psychedelic jams, hazy synths and groovy basslines.

HARMONY FLOWERS came after a stellar few years for Velvet Trip, which included a key spot as triple j featured artist Unearthed. They’ve also showcased their psychedelic sound at Lost Paradise Festival and SXSW Sydney, touring with circuit favorites Parcels.

Velvet Trip returned to the touring front this month, bringing HARMONY FLOWERS They visited a few places in the country that they had missed on their initial tour. They have one gig left, at Ryan’s Hotel in Thirroul on July 6, and the best part is, entry is free.
