Kylian Mbappé and PSG ready to go to war over unpaid salaries

Kylian Mbappé and his former club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are engaged in a serious dispute over unpaid wages. The star striker has demanded payment from PSG of money he claims the club owes him.

Mbappé announced in May that he would leave PSG after seven years. He has now completed his move to Real Madrid on a free transfer. Despite his decision, Mbappe contacted PSG, insisting that they pay him unpaid salaries and bonuses. These payments date back to February and total around €100m (£84m/$107m), according to French sports newspaper L’Equipe.

PSG’s financial dispute

The problem began in February when PSG reportedly stopped paying Mbappé after he informed club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi of his intention to leave. This decision was based on a Gentleman’s Agreement concluded last summer. According to Info Blast, PSG believed Mbappe had agreed to forgo some salary payments as part of the deal. Additionally, PSG are demanding Mbappé repay an €80m (£67m/$85m) loyalty bonus he received in October. The club had assumed that Real Madrid would cover this bonus, but Real Madrid were unaware of this situation and have no intention of paying it.

A PSG spokesperson told Info Blast: “The player pledged to protect the club upon his departure, firstly giving assurances that he would not leave on a ‘free transfer’ and then , if his departure was ultimately a free transfer, by agreeing not to leave ‘for free’ (in other words, giving up certain financial rights), which is what some recent deductions relate to.

Mbappe is currently focused on playing for France at Euro 2024. After the tournament, he will join his new team Real Madrid for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, PSG are looking for a replacement for Mbappe and have been linked with several high-profile strikers, including Victor Osimhen and Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

This dispute between Mbappé and PSG causes significant tensions. Mbappe insists on receiving the money he feels he is owed, while PSG remains firm on its stance on unpaid wages and loyalty bonus. This situation has attracted considerable attention from the football world, highlighting the complex financial aspects involved in high-profile player transfers.

The relationship between PSG and Mbappe has always been closely watched. Mbappé joined PSG from Monaco in 2017 and quickly became one of the world’s best players. His performance on the field and his market value off it have made him a global superstar. However, this financial disagreement added a new layer of complexity to their relationship. PSG’s insistence on withholding payments based on the Gentleman’s Agreement stands in stark contrast to Mbappe’s demand for what he feels is rightfully his.

While Mbappe continues to shine on the international stage with France, he will soon turn his attention to club football with Real Madrid. Real Madrid have long coveted Mbappe and his arrival should significantly strengthen their attacking options. However, financial issues with PSG could potentially overshadow his new start in Spain.

For PSG, replacing a player of Mbappé’s caliber is a daunting task. The club have been linked with several potential signings to fill the void left by Mbappe’s departure. Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are two names that have surfaced in transfer rumors, but attracting top talent will neither be easy nor cheap.

The disagreement between Mbappé and PSG over unpaid salaries and bonuses is a recurring subject. Both sides have strong arguments, and it remains to be seen how this conflict will be resolved. Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid marks a new chapter in his career, but his past with PSG continues to cause complications. PSG’s efforts to find a replacement also add to the drama, making this situation one closely watched by the football community.
