UAE clarifies entry permit application process after residence visa cancellation

Expats residing in the UAE often find themselves traveling frequently for business and personal reasons, sometimes extending their trip beyond six months.

However, extended stays outside the country may result in the automatic cancellation of their residency visa, in accordance with UAE regulations. If a resident’s visa is canceled due to exceeding the 180-day limit outside the Emirates, they must apply for a new entry permit to re-enter the UAE.

Apply for a new entry permit

To start the application process, expats have several options:

PCI Intelligent Services:

Residents who have stayed outside the UAE for more than six months can apply for a new entry permit through the ICP website. They must go to the “Residents outside the UAE” section, select the appropriate service to stay outside for more than six months and fill in their contact details, including their identity number, nationality, details of their passport and the reasons for their prolonged absence. Necessary documents such as passports and Emirates ID copies must be attached and the application fee must be paid before submission.

Typing Centers:

Alternatively, expats can visit ICP-approved typing centers. At these centers, they must complete an application form, submit required documents such as passports and Emirates ID copies, and pay the applicable service fee. This option is convenient for those who prefer in-person assistance and support during the application process.

GDRFA Website for Dubai Residents:

Dubai residents whose visa has been canceled due to prolonged absences should ask their sponsor to apply on their behalf via the GDRFA website. Sponsors must register and log in to the portal, navigate to the “Services” section and select “Issuance of a residence visa” followed by “Issuance of visa for foreigners linked to an employment contract”. Alternatively, sponsors can visit Customer Satisfaction Centers to submit the application in person, ensuring all requirements are met and fees paid.

Requirements and Fees:

When applying for a new entry permit, several conditions must be met:

  • The application must be submitted from outside the UAE.
  • A valid reason for staying outside the country for more than 180 days must be provided.
  • A fine of Dh100 every 30 days may apply, once the initial 180-day grace period expires.
  • The remaining validity of the residence visa must be more than 30 days at the time of application.
  • Fee waivers may be applicable depending on certain circumstances, such as maintaining active resident status with sufficient validity.

It is essential that residents stay informed about the status of their visa, particularly when traveling abroad. This can be done via the ICP website or via the UAEICP mobile app using UAE Pass authentication. Resident status verification ensures that residents are informed of any changes or requirements related to their visa status, facilitating rapid action and compliance with UAE regulations.

By following these procedures and staying informed, expats can effectively manage their residency status in the UAE. The process of applying for a new entry permit aims to facilitate a smooth re-entry into the country while ensuring compliance with residency rules. Proactive management of residency status is crucial to maintaining legal compliance and uninterrupted residency in the UAE.
