Canceled Netflix series could make a comeback

In recent years, fans have seen a number of Netflix series canceled for various reasons. However, it seems that a series canceled by Netflix in 2019 now has a chance to make a return.

As mentioned, Netflix often tends to cancel shows for all sorts of reasons these days. This has become a common tactic for streaming services in our current era. However, this particular series ended with its first season in 2019 – even though a second season was initially announced.

However, the reason this ultimately didn’t come to fruition was because the COVID-19 pandemic shut down production on the series. As such, the second season of this Netflix series has been put on hold – although that could change very soon.

The series, titled The society, revolves around a group of high school students after the adults in their world seem to have disappeared. It’s an interesting premise that obviously had a lot of potential. Now, as Joe pointed out, a Variety interview with series creator Christopher Keyser included some exciting possibilities.

Here’s what Keyser shared about the show’s potential renewal for a new season:

“This was not a normal cancellation. It wasn’t about not having an audience or not believing in it anymore. There was a global crisis that changed all of our lives in the one year we were able to get through it.

“I have constant conversations with a group of writers and Marc Webb (executive producer) about how we could bring this back in some way.

“We don’t have an answer yet, and I wouldn’t count on it, but I don’t do that with every canceled show.”

Keyser also notes that fans have maintained demand for the series:

“The public still wants to talk about it, they are still moved, they want answers to questions and then new questions arise.

“I just don’t know if the world is going to work in a way that works for us, but we’ll keep trying for a while because it gets under my skin, too.”
