Surprisingly, Red Sox Star Could Be Traded; Should Mets Consider Big Splash?

The New York Mets have turned things around and are just one game back for a Wild Card spot in the National League.

New York struggled to start June but has looked like a completely different team over the past few weeks. The Mets are piling up wins and also seem to be having a lot of fun on and off the field.

Overall, Mets fans should be excited about the team right now. They looked like they could be sellers at the upcoming trade deadline, but that no longer appears to be the case.

Instead, the Mets appear to want to add players and try to clinch a playoff spot. It has already been mentioned that the Mets could use some help in the bullpen and that there will be several intriguing players available.

Boston Red Sox star Kenley Jansen could be an interesting option. Boston is in a similar situation to the Mets and could look to buy, but Jansen could still be moved and has been mentioned as a trade candidate by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

“Kenley Jansen, Red Sox: They are arguing so a trade is not a certainty now,” Heyman said. “The (Los Angeles Dodgers) and (San Diego Padres) like him.”

If the Mets want to upgrade the bullpen, Jansen could be an interesting option. Pairing him with a healthy Edwin Diaz would make for a scary late-game pairing for opposing teams. Or, he could take over as the closer if Diaz struggles.

Jansen has shined this season and has a 2.30 ERA in 27 appearances. New York should at least call Boston to see what the cost would be.
