Kandi Burruss Teases ‘Bills Bills Bills’ and ‘No Scrubs’ Inspiration

The “good-for-nothing brother type” that Destiny’s Child sang about in “Bills Bills Bills” is the same “busta” from TLC’s “No Scrubs,” songwriter Kandi Burrus confirms exclusively to Us every week.

Burruss, 48, wrote both tracks in 1999 and gave us a glimpse into his lyrical muse.

“Well, the guy who kind of inspired some of those songs for me, he ended up having big success later,” the The Real Housewives of Atlanta former student exclusively said Us every week on Tuesday, June 25, while discussing its partnership with Hydroxycut. “At the time, it was kind of like, ‘Hmm, OK, man, you need to get your act together.’ But he ended up being successful in his own right, and I knew he had it in him, but sometimes guys aren’t going to make it if you’re their crutch.

Burruss has not revealed the man’s identity, although he is aware of hit songs about his alleged behavior.

Burruss also stayed in touch with the artists themselves, telling We when she last saw Beyonce and his fellow members of Destiny’s Child.

“I’ve seen them from time to time over the years. We haven’t really kept in touch, we haven’t called each other or anything,” Burruss said Tuesday. “I’ve run into (Beyoncé) a few times, I’ve come to different events, I’ve been to her concert, I’ve seen her backstage and that kind of thing. But Kelly Rowland)I probably saw her a lot more than everyone else and LeToya Luckettwe always communicate.

Burruss has evolved since writing for Destiny’s Child and TLC, including a stint on Bravo’s RHOA, a role on Hulu Reasonable doubt and do your own tour. She also prioritized her fitness, trusting Hydroxycut to help her lose weight.

“I really gained a lot of weight last year, right around my birthday,” Burruss recalls. We. “I was about 20 pounds heavier than the year before and I was like, ‘OK,’ I was living my best life. I stopped doing Housewives. I was like, ‘OK, I can eat well, I can relax (and) I can travel.’ And then I saw in my husband’s house (Todd Tucker), someone said, “Ooh, Kandi is gaining weight.” I was like, ‘OK, I need to make a change.’ We have to stop this now! »

Burruss has since lost 10 pounds using Hydroxycut products.

“I mean, you’re not going to lose 20 overnight, but since I started, I’ve lost 10 pounds,” she said. “I’ve had really good energy, which has been helpful because I’ve been rehearsing a lot lately and it’s helped curb my appetite.”
