Devastated Jos Buttler regrets making big mistake after losing to India in T20 World Cup semi-final, says: ‘Looking back, I should have…’

After the match, Buttler regretted England’s defeat against India and admitted that he should have bowled Moeen given the way the pitch surface at the Providence Stadium aided the spinners.

“India outplayed us. We let them go for 20-25 runs too many on a difficult surface. Two years later, different conditions, credit to India. Deserved the win. (Justification for decision thrown) With the rain, I didn’t think it would make much difference. Don’t think it did, they bowled better. They have fantastic bowlers. In hindsight, I should have bowled Moeen the way the spin was played. They bowled an over-par total and the run-up was always tough. Proud of everyone’s efforts in the competition. We had a lot of adversity and bowled really well at times,” Buttler said at the post-match presentation.

The Indian team will now face South Africa, a match scheduled to be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.

Axar Patel was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant performance of 3/23.

“I played on the power play in the past, so I had to play on the power play, that was the plan. The wicket was stopping and staying low, so I tried to bowl in the right areas. The wicket was slow so I tried to bowl slower in this match, it worked for me. It wouldn’t have worked if I had played faster, it would have been easier for their hitters. Our batters told us that the wicket was not easy, so 160 was a good total according to us. This partnership (between Rohit and SKY) was magnificent, they scored occasional boundaries and rotated the strike. I’m not thinking about Barbados at the moment, we will celebrate the player of the match award first,” Axar said in the post-match conference.
