“The Outsider” is an incredible psychological thriller: FLASHBACK

“The Outsider” is one of the best thrillers ever to air on television.

We’ve started a nice trend here at OutKick of highlighting some old shows and movies that I’ve enjoyed over the years.

I’m not sure why, but I decided to take a trip down memory lane for my recent entertainment choices, and I loved it.

Next up is “The Outsider,” a movie you definitely won’t want to miss.

“The Outsider” is an incredible TV series.

Basic Facts of “The Outsider”:

  • Starring: Jason Bateman, Ben Mendelsohn, Paddy Considine, Bill Camp, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vazquez and Cynthia Erivo.
  • Number of episodes: 10
  • Original premiere date: January 12, 2020
  • Network: HBO
  • Plot Description: When an insidious supernatural force intrudes on a seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a young boy, it leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe in.

This is the basic information you need before diving into the series based on a Stephen King book, and once you start the first episode, I can promise you that you will be hooked.

It all begins with the incredibly graphic murder of a little boy named Frankie Peterson. Not only was he murdered, but he was essentially mutilated and eaten.

Terry Maitland (Bateman), a popular local baseball coach, is arrested as the sole suspect after several witnesses see him with Frankie and his DNA is all over the crime.

However, nothing is as it seems as Detective Ralph Anderson (Mendelsohn) delves deeper and deeper into Peterson’s murder.

The problem? There is overwhelming evidence suggesting that Maitland was more than 50 miles away at the time of the murder. That means it would have been physically impossible for him to kill Frankie. Yet his DNA is all over the scene and witnesses saw him pick up the boy.

So how is this possible? This is where the mystery of “The Outsider” is revealed and takes viewers into a *VERY* dark and mysterious path.

Without spoiling anything, I will say that “The Outsider” is one of the darkest shows I have ever seen. It is much more disturbing and sinister than the first season of “True Detective”. This is the kind of show that keeps you up at night after watching it. It’s the kind of show that makes you look over your shoulder in a dark room.

However, this series is not for everyone. It’s violent, horrific, and it delves into the paranormal/unexplainable.

Still, if you like any of these elements, then this show is for you. Just know that there isn’t really any light at the end of the tunnel. This is a show about human suffering, pain and evil at its worst.

I also have to give props to Mendelsohn because he gives an A+ performance as Ralph Anderson. The main reason “The Outsider” is must-watch television is because of it and its ability to grab the viewer and refuse to let go.

If you are looking for a new series to watch, I suggest you give “The Outsider” a chance. Have you seen it yet? Let me know what you thought of it. [email protected].
